IMCI (UK) has been appointed as an Approved Body under the UK Regulations.
By virtue of an email dated 17 February 2023, the International Marine Certification Institute (UK) has been appointed by the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) as an Approved Body under the UK Regulations. This means that IMCI (UK)* can now start issuing UKCA certificates under the Recreational Craft Regulations (RCR).
IMCI (UK), a spin-off of IMCI in Brussels, has been appointed for the same product categories and conformity assessment procedures as IMCI has used since 1996 under the EU Recreational Craft Directive (RCD).
The two acts, RCR and RCD, are technically identical. Both the RCD and the RCD use the same standards from ISO TC 188 for technical verification of compliance with the legislation.
The UKCA marking replaces the CE marking in the GB as a result of BREXIT.
Therefore, IMCI, in collaboration with IMCI (UK), can now perform CE and UKCA certifications in one go, which will reduce the burden on the industry.
